Renovation Update

March 25, 2011

After years of planning and anticipation, the Big Renovation Project is finally starting to move ahead towards completion. At a special meeting on February 20, 2011, the Congregation overwhelmingly voted to give the Church Council the authority to finance and construct the major changes in our building that we have planned. These were the final formal steps the Congregation needed to take to get the ball rolling.

On Thursday March 24, 2011, we were notified by the Mission Investment Fund that our application for an $800,000 construction loan was approved. We are now in a position to sign contracts and nail down prices for the project. We hope to have this process complete by early April so demolition and construction can begin in May. With good luck and good weather, we could be in a newly remodeled building by the end of 2011.

Now we really have a need for active physical help. The Renovation committee still has some design details to work out and will have to start having regular meetings. We will need all the volunteers (and their friends) that signed up to help work on the project to get their work clothes and tools ready to go. And we need all of the Snow Birds to get back to their home roosts so we have a full workforce.

Please keep watching for breaking news on this story, and don’t be afraid to ask how you can help. We will try to expand our ways of communicating so you can stay on top of what is going on.

The representative of the Mission Investment Fund was impressed with the way we were able to reduce the price of the project, but more importantly with the financial support of our congregation for this project. Without everyone’s help, we would not be at the threshold of this major renovation which will enhance our ability to pursue our Christian mission to share God’s grace with our community. My special thanks to all who have worked and supported this project.

Now it is time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.
